This is one of my favorite card tricks. If done right it will amaze all types of audiences.
Effect: A spectator freely chooses a card and that card is placed on top and shuffled into the deck. The spectator then cuts twice trying to cut to their card, making three piles. The magician shows the bottom card of each pile and the last one is correct! But the magician pushes on with the trick, with the spectator convinced he has messed up, and puts the three 'failures'. The spectator then gives the magician a number and that many cards from the bottom is their card. And the card put down on the table that was their card is now just a random card.
Performance:
- Have the spectator freely choose a card, memorizes it and places it on top.
- Shuffle the card to the bottom in whatever way you want to.
- Have the spectator "Cut With Confidence" and attempt to cut to their card, the effect will be that they have made three piles with their card on the bottom of one.
- Show the card on the bottom of the pile furthest from their card and place it on the table face down saying it's okay that they failed.
- Do the same with the other two except when their card shows up move it down slightly with your thumb and take the card on top of it, do this quickly and out of the view of the spectator.
- The spectator gives you a number and you repeat the above move until you get to the number where you reveal that it is magically their card.
Hints:
- When the spectator tries to tell you that you messed up the trick go all alpha male and Do NOT let them turn over the card.
- Block the sleight with your hand and do the same motion but without the sleight for the other two to make it look less suspicious.
GOOD LUCK
